Christopher Smith

Hello, I'm Chris.
I’m a full-stack software engineer and U.S. Army Veteran specializing in web development and application security. With a strong foundation in JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern web frameworks, I build secure, reliable, and scalable applications.

My experience includes modernizing core APIs at an enterprise scale, strengthening CI/CD pipelines, and serving as a Security Champion to reduce applicaiton attack surfaces and improve overall system resilience.

Before transitioning into tech, I served eight years as an Army Aviation Officer, where I developed extensive project management, cross-functional coordination, and team leadership skills. These experiences now shape my approach to software development—enabling me to lead initiatives, communicate effectively, and deliver high-impact solutions.

Driven by a focus on privacy, security, and standardized engineering practices, I bring a mission-oriented mindset to every project.

    More Details

As a Brooksource consultant, I was contracted with Ally Financial and served as an individual contributor on Ally's Core API team. I worked on key initiatives within the Customer API group, supporting systems that handle data for millions of users. I contributed to reshaping backend services by implementing an idempotent event-driven approach in AWS to enable building a highly available infrastructure, improving reliability and streamline system behavior. I also improved the team’s delivery processes by refining the CI/CD pipeline and introducing more robust testing practices. During periods of leadership absence, I guided the six-person team I was assigned to and helped onboard new developers to keep projects moving smoothly. In addition, I took on a security-focused role, identifying potential vulnerabilities and collaborating across teams to strengthen the overall security posture of the API platform.

  3. Aviation Officer

    More Details

Over eight years as a U.S. Army Aviation Officer, I advised senior leaders on aviation operations, managed teams responsible for mission planning and execution, and led key aviation sections during major exercises. I streamlined operational workflows by implementing digital based processes and tracking systems, significantly improving coordination, efficiency, and reporting across multiple units. I managed complex aviation programs, including maintenance readiness for 30 UH-60L helicopters and mission support for a 119 aircraft aviation brigade, while training and developing junior leaders to operate with confidence and autonomy. In roles ranging from platoon leader to assistant operations officer, I planned and executed air assault missions in hostile environments, integrated cross-functional assets, and ensured units maintained the readiness and capability to support high-priority operations.
